How are you enjoying all the great content I’m providing you? I know, I know, I’m amazing!
But before I get there, I really want to clear something up! You maybe thinking, like I once did, that supplements are your solution to get muscular and shredded FAST.
Well I want to tell you a little bit about what I went through when I first started out training and using supplements. You need to know this, if you want to start using supplements CORRECTLY! I’m about to reveal the truth about supplements!
THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT…SO READ IT!
THE TRUTH ABOUT SUPPLEMENTS…
As you know I read loads of books, tried a number of different programs plus read a variety of different health & fitness
From these I some how got in my head that supplements were a sort of magic pill; that I would wake up the next day and feel like superman with spectacular, magical muscle growth every time I worked out!
I literally spent thousands of dollars on them, trialing loads of different products but failed to get results. The worst thing was I thought it was because I just hadn’t found the right supplement for me!
I kept on going, till I realized that the majority of supplements are just gimmicks that over-promised results, were harmful to my body and were just looking to get their hands on my money! What a waste of time!
To set the record straight, you should assume that supplements can only effect your results by around 10%. So the majority of the work has to come from the workout regime and nutritional plan you set!
In other words supplements are just that…SUPPLEMENTS..there to SUPPLEMENT your workout and nutritional plan! Not to become it!
However, if used right, supplements can get you out of plateaus, drive your growth and be really useful in your goals of getting muscular and shredded! But you need to be prepared for them…
SO ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS FIRST BEFORE USING SUPPLEMENTS…
1) Are you eating enough without supplements? i.e. Are you in a calorie surplus?
2) Are you eating protein every 3 hours? (Not protein shakes, actually consuming a food high in protein)
3) Are you working out between 45-60 minutes a session (no longer or no less), 3-5 times a week?
4) When you’re working out are you lifting the heaviest weights you can and tiring out after doing 6-12 reps?
5) Have you stopped or cut down on your cardio workouts?
If you answered YES to all of the above, supplements can probably help you,
if you answered NO to any of the above, correct these before you start using any of the supplements below!
I do want make clear though, there are more workout and nutrition techniques that you can use, without supplements (that I cover in my muscle building book, “pack muscle, destroy fat”) to really take your muscle growth to a new level, which I simply can’t cover here.
But if you’re getting the above basics right, at least, you can begin using supplements, to help you.
SO HERE ARE THE BEST 6 SUPPLEMENTS FOR SKINNY GUYS…
As you know, I am a big advocate of natural foods and natural muscle building…so I mainly suggest you use natural supplements and nothing else! These are better for body as well.
Anyway, here are my suggested top 6 supplements for skinny hardgainer
1. A Whey Protein Powder
It is best if you mix this with a simple carbohydrate, like sugar or dextrose (preferred) in a ratio of 2:1 (Carbohydrate CALORIES to
protein CALORIES), this forms the best sort of pre, during and post workout drink for great muscle growth!
2. A Casein Protein Powder
Unfortunately most people believe that whey is best protein to take for whatever situation, and so just keep buying whey!
However it is not the correct protein for meal replacement, where you require a slow-digesting protein, which provides you bursts of protein over time.
This is perfect where you are finding it hard to get enough protein in during meal times i.e. perfect for meal replacement when looking to replace protein.
3. Essential Fatty Acids
It is interesting to know that around 80% of the US population are deficient in essential fatty acids!
Essential fatty acids are found in unsaturated fats and help boost the release of testosterone and growth hormone, which leads to substantial muscle growth. They also help protect the joints and bones from damage and aid recovery time.
Overall Flax seed oil supplements (vegetarian option) and fish oil supplements are the best options.
4. A Set Of Multi-Vitamins
Getting the right balance of vitamins and minerals is essential when it comes to muscle growth. They can help in transportation of protein around the body and in the release of muscle growing hormones etc.
So if you are finding it hard to get enough vitamins or minerals in your normal food, it is important you get yourself a decent set of multi-vitamins!
Creatine is naturally found in your body. But the depletion of it stops you training longer. So it’s presence, means you can achieve more reps per set and that equates to higher muscle growth!
In addition, creatine also pulls fluid into the cells of your muscle fibers, which makes them look bigger (this process is known as volumization).
So overall, creatine supplements are good for getting more muscular and also for breaking out of plateus.
However, be warned, too much of it has been said to have bad side effects! So as much as it is great for muscle gain, I suggest you take this carefully and drink loads of water when your on it.
Glutamine is found in the body naturally, and helps dealing with stresses you put on your body through weight training.
Sometimes though there isn’t enough and you take longer to recover from a workout! Glutamine as supplement can help there, and improve your recovery times!
If you are on a good workout and nutritional routine, supplements can help you, especially the 6 above.
But I must warn you, it is important you choose the product wisely as not all supplement products or companies are the same. There is a particular way and technique of choosing the right supplements so you don’t get conned out of your money and muscle growth!
